This hike will lead you along the ancient pastoral paths and you will learn more about the legend of the Fuerteventura patron saint "La Virgen de la Peña". The beauty of the rocky gorge will inspire you. After the hike, you will be able to enjoy tapas consisting of fresh fish and local products.
The first part of the hike leads us to the "La Presa de Las Peñitas" canyon, which was created millions of years ago by erosion. The surrounding area is exceptionally green for Fuerteventura and leaves the impression of an oasis. Using a narrow trail that was built into the basalt rock, we will walk up to the Chapel of the Protected Saints. You will learn more about the legend of the patron saints and the life of Majoreros.
After we return to the starting point, we walk towards the fishing village Ajuy. You will discover the oldest part of the island with its impressive rock formations. The rock formations were created under the surface of the water. You will learn that the caves of Ajuy were used by pirates in the 15th and 16th centuries to hide their treasures.
The third and last part of our hike will take us along the coast to the north. After about 30 minutes, we will reach the rock "El Jurado". This rock formation of volcanic origin is about 35 meters high and perhaps the entrance gate to a kingdom or a distant galaxy. You will learn more about the legends of the first settlers, the Guanches, and their lives on the island. Afterwards we walk back to Ajuy, where you can enjoy delicious tapas at the waterfront.
We pick you up at your hotel or the agreed meeting point in the south of Fuerteventura (Morro Jable, Esquinzo, Costa Calma, Tarajalejo). From there we will head together to the starting point of our hike. The hiking distance is about 7-8 kilometers and about 200 meters of altitude. The tour is characterized as an easy hike. We recommend you to wear hiking or trekking boots, but at least sports shoes. Further, you should take a bottle of water as well as sunscreen and a sun hat. After completing the hike and enjoying the tapas, we will take you back to your hotel or meeting place. The pick-up times are as follows: 9.00 am in Morro Jable, 9.10 am in Esquinzo, 9.30 am in Costa Calma and 9.50 am in Tarajalejo
